London's young design talents customise this season's classic denim

For our fashion story in this month's W*163 October issue, we commissioned London's young design talent elite to customise our edit of this season’s classic denim pieces. Jason Evans photographed BMX boys, ‘boarders and body poppers. Breaking in new jeans never looked so appealing.

Shaun Samson studs on G-Star Raw

Originally from California, Samson often channels LA street styles, from grunge to cholo, in his collections. Studs were a stand-out motif in his S/S 2013 collection and we asked him to get studly with a jacket from Dutch denim innovators G-Star Raw

Customised jacket, £155, by G-star Raw

Kit Neal bleaches on Guess

Neale described his last collection as ‘Margate meets Peckham’ and we sort of know what he meant. For us he bought out the bleach – a favourite tool – and left love hearts on his Guess jacket

Customised jacket, £119, by Guess

Christopher Shannon frays on Lee

Shannon, Brit fashion’s brightest young star, played with frays in his S/S 2012 collection and applied his innovative fraying technique to a selection of key Lee pieces for us

Customised jacket, £215; customised shirt, £75, both by Lee

Agi & Sam prints on Diesel

Two collections featuring crowd-pleasing prints have marked out Agi & Sam as ones to watch. The duo bleached and truncated the arms and legs of a Diesel shirt and jean combo before adding pick-me-up prints

Customised shirt, £120; customised jeans, £130, both by Diesel

Martine Rose patchworks on Levi's

In her A/W 2012 collection, Martine Rose played patchwork tricks on the iconic ‘MA-1‘ bomber jacket. We requested she get similarly patchy with a denim ‘Trucker’ jacket

Customised jacket, £90, by Levi’s

Matthew Miller distresses on AG Adriano Goldschmied

For what is perhaps the most extreme makeover in this series, Miller took his pair of AG jeans and then covered them in paint and candle wax. It wasn’t quite what we imagined when we told him to think DIY, but it worked a treat

Customised jeans, £176, by AG Adriano Goldschmied

Alex Mattsson overlays on Wrangler

For his previous collections, Mattsson beefed up pieces with an extra level of leather. For us he overlayed leather onto a Wrangler jacket
