PatKon discuss their design victors
Design Awards judges Konstantin Grcic and Patricia Urquiola on their winners
Here at Wallpaper*, we've championed designs titans Patricia Urquiola and Konstantin Grcic for many a year – a fact that hit an apex of sorts when we awarded them the joint honour of Designer of the Year in the 2015 Wallpaper* Design Awards.
Given that shared accolade, it felt appropriate to ask the pair to join forces on this year’s judging panel. They were, they admit, reluctant at first – but the Wallpaper* Design Awards aren't about po-faced criticism (or judging, per se). Rather, they're a bona fide celebration of the finest work that the architecture, design and fashion worlds have to offer.
Watch PatKon – as they'll be known from here on in, okay? – discuss their chosen winners across range of categories: from OMA's Best New Building, the Fondazione Prada in Milan ('To me, the building stands for a kind of quality we see so rarely,' explains Grcic); to the Best Designer and Best Domestic Design winning Bouroullec brothers ('They did fantastic work this year, it was very easy for me,' says Urquiola); Ermenegildo Zegna Couture and Céline's triumphs in the Best Men's and Women's Fashion Collection, respectively; and the hard-fought accolade of Best City for Copenhagen – 'a city of today', Grcic states, 'for a citizen of today'.
