Antipodean coffee has become a staple of the morning ritual in London, and this new spot brings Australia's café culture to the East End. Perth native Magnus Reid and designer Barend Massow Hemmes have repurposed a disused shed in a maze of alleys in Shoreditch into the Tuckshop café, fronting White Rabbit studios. They renovated the structure and made every furnishing and fixture themselves, including a bar with replaceable panels to display artwork. The menu features a selection of simple, inexpensive hot dishes and sandwiches and, most importantly, beans sourced from the city's own Alchemy Coffee company. From 2014, the Tuckshop will begin commissioning artists to create works for the space in return for access to private investment and, naturally, complimentary coffee.
