Salone del Mobile 2014 preview
Design pilgrims are already beginning to flock to Milan ahead of next week’s Salone del Mobile (8-13 April) – the world’s most important design fair and the unofficial start of the design season. This year’s Salone happenings are woven into the entire fabric of the city, from the apartments of Brera to the historic buildings of the city’s newly minted 5vie art and design district in central Milan, to the post-industrial warehouses that make up Ventura Lambrate – not to mention the Rho fairgrounds themselves. With so much to see, navigating it all can be tough. Here, we round up the top 25 exhibitions to see.

Inside the fair itself, organizer Cosmit’s flagship exhibit this year will offer a glimpse into the private spaces of eight of the world’s most celebrated architects. Curator Francesca Molteni (read more about her in our May issue) visited, filmed and photographed the architect’s homes and interviewed them to explore their vision of domestic life. From the 2014 Pritzker Prize laureate Shigeru Ban’s Tokyo abode to the Fuksas’ Parisian apartment, the installations at the Milanese fair - created in collaboration with architect and theatre designer Davide Pizzigoni - reinterpret the personal spaces into conceptual structures.
