The Modern Gentry, London
With Christmas just an eye-blink away, gift shopping quickly becomes an exercise in panic management, and sheer frustration at the madding crowd. Even with the best of intentions, it’s difficult to muster much festive cheer when the item you just know will make the perfect stocking filler for your better half is either no longer in stock, or it’s in the wrong colour.
Here is where the Modern Gentry steps in. Referencing the pop-up store model – this time in the Alma store in the Savile Row quarter – the idea is to gather, exclusively under one roof, three London-based men’s fashion and accessories brands. All in an intimate environment that encourages leisurely, yet super-private retail therapy.
Architect Yorgo Lykouria was recruited to temporarily transform the Grade 1-listed interiors into a clean lined, pared-back setting that leaves the talking to E Tautz’s ready to wear collection; Hannah Martin’s glittering ensemble of cufflinks, bangles and signet rings; and Lodger’s bespoke shoes.
