In the Claudio Silvestrin & Giuliana Salmaso designed basement of La Rinascente, Milan’s one and only Grande Magazzino or department store, Wallpaper* has set up shop. Invited by Rinascente’s boss Vittorio Radice (the man who turned Selfridges around and is currently three years into orchestrating Rinascente’s own renaissance) to ‘curate’ our own corner, we jumped at the chance and the resulting retail space will be open for business from the 10th of November.

Sniffing out the best new brands and their products is our hobby already, and our team of editors jet in and out of all the fairs (Copenhagen, Helsinki, Cologne, Frankfurt, Tokyo-you name it), scour degree shows, design studios and all those other off the beaten track places we uncover all the fabulous stuff we put in Wallpaper* means we are in the perfect position to come up with the goods.
As Wallpaper* Editor-in-Chief Tony Chambers says himself, ‘Scouring the globe to discover the best new designers, brands and products is what Wallpaper* does best, so a retail venture like this is the natural next step. Wallspace* brings the intelligence and trained eye of the magazine direct to the consumer’.
As such, from this month Wallspace* opens with an edit of domestic design, which will include Japanese electronics from Naoto Fukasawa’s Plus Minus Zero brand; Jia Inc’s ‘Ding’ slow cooker from Hong Kong; Alexa Lixfeld’s porcelain ‘Ricebowls’ from Germany and Singgih Susilo Kartono’s handmade ‘Wooden Radio’ for Magno in Java (to name but a few). Look out for us somewhere between the Kartell and Georg Jensen shops.
