Câpsula, a series of tiny homes, champions 'living large with less'
Câpsula, initiated by architecture studio i29, brings together tiny homes, wellness and a design-led approach at Dutch Design Week 2023
Offering simplicity and design led thinking, Câpsula, a tiny homes concept initiated by architecture studio i29, has launched at Dutch Design Week 2023. The project's scale may be small, the team behind it highlights, but it has big ambitions and a richness in 'bare essentials.' The idea is to hone down the notion of slow living, creating the perfect cabin architecture and opting for fewer, but better, options, because 'To be happy, how much do we need?'
Soft Lodge
Câpsula: a carefully distilled tiny home series
As a result, Câpsula is a carefully distilled series of prefabricated cabins and tiny homes. The family of designs contains three iterations: Soft Lodge, Writer’s Block Hut, and Tiny Holiday Home. The mix allows for a variety of scales and approaches to fit different needs, uses and settings.
Soft Lodge
Minimalist architecture here does not equate blandness or a cold atmosphere, as every inch and detail in these tiny retreats has been lovingly perfected and imbued with meaning. A connection between interiors and exteriors is central, as is the use of timber as the main material - alongside more natural textures and colours. A pared down approach throughout, innovation and sustainable architecture are also central to the Câpsula DNA.
Writer’s Block Hut
Prototypes of two of the structures in the series - i29's Soft Lodge and Writer’s Block Hut - are built for Dutch Design Week 2023 and will be on display, available to be experienced in real life in the garden of DOMUSDELA. Additionally, Writer’s Block Hut will serve as the location for a podcast broadcast, crafting discussions with creatives about their work process, and its relationship to space.
Tiny Holiday Home
It's all about 'living large with less,' i29 write; and the concept is aiming to grow as the business does. While these initial designs are by i29, the idea that there will be opportunities for more designer and architect collaborations with the company in the future. Watch this space.
