Doshi Levien bring an architectural slant to their curtain range and installation for Kvadrat
From their creative den on London's leafy Columbia Road, Anglo-Indian duo Nipa Doshi and Jonathan Levien forge their creations, from sketching to building maquettes and prototypes. For their inaugural fabric collection for Danish brand Kvadrat, they approached the task of textiles with the same techniques as furniture, experimenting with colour and textures to produce soft yet sculptural forms. The pair revealed the fruits of their investigations with the 'Pilotis' installation, unveiled at Kvadrat's showroom during the London Design Festival last month. Suspended from the ceiling, these curvaceous monuments invited visitors to experience fabrics as architecture as they meandered through their textiles maze. Here, they talk us through the unusual inspirations behind the project.
