Drake Devonshire — Wellington, Canada
Jeff Stober, owner of Toronto’s hip Drake Hotel has just launched a new property, this time among the wineries and organic farmlands of rustic Prince Edward County. Once again teaming up with designer John Tong of local studio +tongtong, the interiors of the cosy 13-room retreat – housed in a former foundry dating from 1880 – are inspired by the cultural background of the local community and also incorporates a variety of quirky references from British country inns to American summer camps; warming woods are offset with a healthy dose of the Drake brand’s playfulness to include mismatched furniture and cheerful prints in bright colours. Sit back and relish the sweeping views of Lake Ontario, while savouring the restaurant’s seafood chowder, or head out to explore the nearby Sandbanks Provincial Park. There is the Drake General Store, which sells locally curated antiques and coming soon, an ongoing music programme and a rotating art collection along with a series of lakeside additions from a fire pit to cabanas will ensure year-round entertainment.
