Japan

A second home composed of two intersecting tubes of space, the Plus House evokes the spirit of rigorous Miesian Modernism. The product of the Tokyo-based, husband-and-wife firm Mount Fuji Architects Studio, the house is located on a steeply, sloped site amid Shizuoka Prefecture.

With one wing facing a protected forest and the other the Pacific Ocean, the Plus House is well-sited. Consisting of living, dining and kitchen areas plus an expansive terrace upstairs, with bedrooms and a bath (supplied by a natural hot spring) down below, the house is clad entirely with white marble.

Distinguished by its gradated finish, the stone becomes increasingly smooth towards the home’s extremities where it reflects the spectacular scenery and helps merge the architecture with nature.
