‘Jewels for the bathroom’. That was French architect and designer Jean-Marie Massaud’s avant garde concept for German manufacturer AXOR's new ‘AXOR Edge’ collection of taps, mixers and shower thermostats.
State-of-the-art production technologies, precise milling and next generation diamond-cutting machinery have come together to create asymmetric cuboid shapes, everyday objects rendered as architectonic sculptures.
The precision finish and fine detail of the new ‘AXOR Edge’ collection are comparable to standards set by the horology, jewellery and optical industries; diamond-cut surfaces and luxurious structural details provide exciting contrasts and evoke emotion while delivering a special sensory experience. ‘When diamonds are used in a production process, it’s to ensure the greatest precision and the finest details with the most refined materials,’ say the engineers at AXOR. ‘Precision is the foundation for brilliance, and production with diamonds is the benchmark for perfect surfaces and edges.’
‘With this new collection, we explore the world of extreme refinement and uniqueness,’ says Massaud. ‘We wanted to create an emotion by surprising people. Architects or decorators may try to create a piece of art. AXOR Edge can be an element of this unique composition. Let’s explore some processes to produce a tap that’s not just die-casting and polishing, it’s a sculpture!’
Long associated with contemporary luxury in bathrooms and kitchens, the AXOR name is unique; avant garde, one-of-a-kind products and collections are created to the highest aesthetic and technological standards, driven by a ‘form follows perfection’ ethos. AXOR’s research, design and development process for its AXOR products is thorough and meticulous, continuing until nothing more can be added or removed. Its trendsetting designer products have been created in collaboration with internationally renowned architects and designers.
Continually redefining aesthetics, water design and functionality, AXOR’s award-winning mixers, showers and accessories inspire progressive bathroom design all over the world, setting new benchmarks for individuality and exclusivity for private customers, bathroom planners and interior designers.
Form follows perfection across the ‘AXOR Edge’ collection’s manufacturing process, which depends on precision engineering to thousandths of a millimetre. Such exactness is realised by using an aerospace-grade diamond-cutting machine, with the fine pattern structures created with the same meticulous accuracy.
The collection is milled from a solid block of brass, line by line, in several steps, forming delicate pyramid frustums that create luxurious detail of tactility and contrast. Attention to detail is evident at each bevelled and milled angle, each three-dimensional diamond-cut chamfer, and on every high gloss, light reflecting surface. Shower thermostats glisten, while mixers and taps shine like gemstones.
