As the final component of Aby Rosen's revitalisation of the Seagram Building, the highly anticipated arrival of The Lobster Club holds up under all the pressure. Elegantly designed by architect Peter Marino, the space that formerly housed the iconic all-day eatery, Brasserie, has been transformed into a glamorous, art-filled setting that displays both mid-century inspired details, as well as contemporary hallmarks such as informal open plan seating, pre-cast concrete flooring and a monolithic onyx and polished bronze bar, to give it a fresh edge.
In its new guise, the reconfigured 4,500 square foot space leads guests from the entrance to a balcony that opens out onto the main dining room. Custom-designed sofas in chartreuse upholstery and salmon hued armchairs impart the main dining room a relaxed, lounge-like feel, while specially commissioned drip-painted tiles by the artist Laura Bergman, and suspended banquettes with blackened bronze dividers that emulate the Seagram’s façade, hark back to the building’s design history. Around the room, custom-made upholstery, and table settings all adding to the restaurant’s energetic feel. Retractable leather curtains allow the space to adapt from breakfast to late night drinks, depending on the different times of day.
As guests head deeper into the restaurant, a separate dining area is decked out in red terrazzo tiles, white ebony walls and adorned with Picasso-inspired metal sculptures, also produced by the studio. This leads to the restaurant's all-new private dining area, which dramatically boasts black leather walls and red leather seating. The contrasts to the building’s other restaurants – The Pool and The Grill upstairs, which are all operated by Major Food Group, don’t stop there. The Lobster Club comes armed with a comprehensive Japanese menu of sushi, teppanyaki and fusion dishes, that’s bound to lure in diners as much as its memorable décor.
