Gorki Apartments — Berlin, Germany

Berlin has no shortage of cool accommodation, but nothing quite compares to the newly unveiled Gorki Apartments, a building of 35 individually designed spaces and two luxury penthouses situated in the heart of the historic Mitte district. The apartments - ranging from 226 sq ft studios to penthouses with roof decks and panoramic city views - have been thoughtfully arranged by interior designer Sandra Pauquet with the help of architect Kim Wang, who mixed design classics by Knoll and Eirmann with vintage finds from local flea markets. For an authentic, neighbourhood feel, each apartment comes with a mailbox; door numbers are eschewed in lieu of pseudonyms for full anonymity. For all its intimacy, Gorki still offers a full range of hotel comforts, including Pelago bicycles for transport around town, bedding by German fashion label Odeeh and toiletries by Dr Bronner. Guests can stay for up to six months.
