Proudly owned, designed and built by Cambodians, this three-year project saw a riverside hostel torn down and replaced with a shining beacon to the country’s burgeoning creative talent.
Treeline is the first hotel for Hok Kang, founder of Phnom Penh-based architects HKA & Partners, and co-founder of Brown Coffee, the country’s much-loved coffee-shop chain; of which there is a branch alongside.
Kang’s vision for the 45-room hotel combines Cambodia’s newer minimalistic design movement with mid-century Modern influences and uses sustainably sourced native timber and stone throughout. A leafy inner courtyard delights as a haven from a hectic city and showcases a feature art piece, Cosmic Wheel, by the HKA team. Art is key to the hotel’s ethos, with a collection of around 50 works by celebrated Cambodian artists such as Sopheap Pich and Sothea Thang. Other elements include Suri Spa, the pool and Canopy Bar, breakfast restaurant Seed and airy Hok Noodle Bar & Grill, combining Pan-Asian dishes with giant wall art features.
Treeline is a short drive from Angkor, home to the most incredible temples complexes; alternatively, linger in Siem Reap for tuk-tuk food tours or shopping in Kandal Village.
