Tattersalls Hotel — Armidale, Australia
Glittering with visceral potency, the lavish Victorian jewel tones and gilded Art Deco finishes within the extensively restored and rejuvenated Tattersalls Hotel possess the awe appeal of Aladdin’s Cave.
Set amongst the highlands of northern New South Wales, bordered by forested gorges, the hotel's historical essence (built in the 1850s) has been mined by Sydney-based practice, Luchetti Krelle, who revived it with a sense of refined prestige.
Guests are encouraged to celebrate age-old rituals, from sinking into garnet velveteen armchairs by an elaborate wooden fireplace and dining upon fluted sapphire-hued banquettes, to bathing within the generously sized marble bathrooms before slumbering amongst curved bedhead embraces.
Whilst the wilderness beckons with ample outdoor activities, it’s tempting to linger in the plush private lounge rooms. Dotting the upper levels, they entice guests amongst the 25 suites with their pressed metal ceilings, cocooning arched parquetry shelves and softly upholstered furnishings.
