The serene landscape in the small holiday village of Debant in south-western Austria has been punctuated with an unusual timber-clad structure that serves as the area's newest guesthouse. Called Ufogel (a combination between Vogel - the German for bird - and UFO), the cottage is perched in the back garden of the Pitterl family and is a collaboration between Graz-based design firm Aberjung and local architect Peter Jungmann. Fashioned almost entirely from the surrounding local larch wood, the interiors comprise four beds, a kitchen, toilet and shower, along with a wood stove and heating system to keep cosy in winter. The focal-point, however is the large panoramic window which frames the dramatic vista of the 3000m high Tyrol mountains.
