All in a day’s work: Nelson Chow designs the new space for WeWork’s Hong Kong outpost
The Hong Kong-based architect Nelson Chow has collaborated with the in-house design team of international co-working enterprise WeWork, to outfit its new Causeway Bay location.
Inspired by the city’s iconic trams, ferries and trains, the office space features hardwood flooring, retro Chinese print-inspired wallpaper, Chow’s custom-designed lighting and a mix of contemporary furnishings reflecting local hues such as Star Ferry’s trademark jade green. Bold art and graphic works by local artists include a light sculpture composed of barbershop poles by Adrian Wong and colourful graffiti wall murals by Caratoes.
Spread over eight levels, there are a series of private meeting rooms and, on the 20th floor against panoramic harbour views, is the central communal hub with flexible hot desks, relaxed living room seating, and a friendly barista. And yes, there is a ping-pong table.
