New York Design Week 2018 preview
Although following hot on the heels of Salone del Mobile on the design calendar, NYCxDesign (11–23 May) has stayed the course to become a vibrant, inspiring showcase of American design and creativity. This year’s iteration is set to be especially dynamic with a slew of independent designers and collectives debuting new wares on their own terms and turf. Even the behemoth International Contemporary Furniture Fair, the week’s original anchor, has shaken things up this year. Here are some of the highlights in store for the week. Writer: Pei-ru Keh
After two years of being located on an unassuming piece of Howard Street, Tom Dixon’s New York showroom will be upping sticks to the heart of Soho, opening alongside many other furniture brands. The new space, which will be greatly expanded, will during design week house a pop-up version of Dixon’s Flash Factory which reveals how the brand’s new version of its limited edition ‘Etch Light’ is made. Also on view will be pieces from the latest ‘Hot and Wet’ collection – design-forward surface lighting that can withstand the heat and humidity of kitchens and bathrooms.
