Annie Faivre’s original 1992 scarf design

Hermès Arceau Grands Fonds watch

A plethora of hand-crafted tesserae make up the intricate dial
French artist Annie Faivre’s 1992 Hermès scarf illustration has been reimagined as a glass mosaic dial for the house’s latest Arceau Grands Fonds watch. Framed by the Arceau’s distinctive round case, its understated silhouette is a perfect foil for Faivre’s richly coloured design. Here it is rendered in micro glass tesserae, which are cut and fired before being painstakingly placed on the dial one by one, using a wooden peg. It takes a month for the finished micro artwork to dry – the dial must be be perfectly, flawlessly flat.
