The debut of Dover Street Market New York coincides with the reopening of Comme des Garçons' Chelsea boutique, refurbished for the first time since it launched in 1999. The revamp sees the iconic, undulating space in Chelsea’s art district transformed with a wash of molten gold. ‘According to research, when babies are given a choice of colours, they often choose gold,’ explained Rei Kawakubo. ‘I imagined a magical and intimate world of gold, my third colour after black and red.’ With light shades by Beirut’s .Pslab, two gilt sculptural installations by artist Kohei Nawa and much of the furniture realised in the auspicious hue, the gold-dipped space is truly a sight to behold.
