Eudon Choi S/S 2015
Referencing the natural forms and pared down shapes of American modernist artist Georgia O'Keeffe's work, Eudon Choi set out to relax classic wardrobe staples for spring, walking dresses down a provincial path as he softened suiting with subtle flounces. Titled 'Abiquiu' - after O'Keeffe's New Mexico studio-cum-museum - Choi began by prescribing ruffles to the back of boxy blazers and the hem of otherwise traditional trenches, also ruching his trousers at the ankle. The Korean designer's next state of repose saw his models' shoulders cut out of pinafore dresses that were youthfully layered over artist's blouses. Choi then moved onto address O'Keeffe's abstract florals, framing pastel printed apron tops and slim-line pants with black reverse panelling, before building drama with a series of asymmetric silhouettes. Spanish-style black and white silk floral dresses cascaded with diagonal frills, finely-striped shirting buttoned haphazardly to one side, as white cotton and lace smock dresses seductively hung off-the-shoulder. Their purity and draped ease alone made you want to run off in his ponyskin mules and join a painters' colony, masterfully summing up Choi's light touch this season.
