Wallpaper* Gift Guides: What our director of digital content, Charlotte Gunn, has on her wishlist this year
From the year's most-anticipated music biography to stacks of vinyl, these goodies will help you unwind and unplug
This festive season, the gifts that appeal the most, it seems, are those that promise to help me disconnect. With the new year comes the inevitable pledge to form new rituals – skincare, coffee, playing records front-to-back – so I'm focusing on giving and receiving gifts that make these ideals seem ever more achievable.
Patti Smith's newest memoir dives into her teenage years. I adored Just Kids and while that arguably chronicles the juicier part of Patti's past, Bread of Angels promises to revisit her most formative influences: the poetry of Arthur Rimbaud and the songs of Bob Dylan, among them.
After leaving my Nothing headphones in a hotel room earlier this year, I’ve been relying on a less-than-ideal replacement. The newly released Ear (3) buds are calling my name: noise-cancelling, crisp audio, and a built-in microphone – ideal if your day involves interviews or content creation. With 38 hours of battery life, they should also make long flights more bearable.
Arte House opened on Golborne Road in May and features a beautifully curated collection of art and objects. I tend to adopt a 'one for you, one for me' approach to gifting, and recently left with four mugs by Cornish artist Shannon Bartlett-Smith. Two may have already found their way into my cupboard.
These miniature digital cameras make a great gift for teens. Inspired by the 1987 Kodak Fling, the keychain camera captures 1.6MP photos and 30fps AVI videos through a 35mm-equivalent lens. They come in 'blind boxes', with seven retro designs available. The demand for these cameras is extraordinarily high – they are out of stock at most retailers, WEX are currently taking pre-orders.
