Sisters Laila and Nadia Gohar are always serving up something surreal, be it lace-trimmed dishwashing gloves, a plate covered in trompe l'oeil beans or a carousel in the shape of vegetables. Now the duo and their cult-favourite brand Gohar World are kicking it into a new gear with a limited-edition shoe design with Asics.

The Gohar World x Asics Gel-DS Trainer SP melds the aesthetics of a mid-aughts track spike with the feminine silhouette of a laced-up ballet slipper. Asics material innovations, like proprietary Gel in the rearfoot and carbon-reinforced Trusstic support layers in the arch, make the flat ideal for running around town.

‘We wanted to create a shoe that could move through a full day – from early mornings at the market to evenings around the table,’ affirms Laila Gohar, a former Wallpaper* guest editor. ‘It needed to be practical, but also beautiful and fun to wear.’

Adding to the fun are quirky Gohar World signatures, including a quartet of charms (one pearlescent bauble is in the shape of a chicken foot) and punk-y stainless steel ‘piercings’ looped through the shoe’s black mesh upper. Slick black vamps, silver accents and a signature bean-shaped Gohar World logo keep the kicks feeling fast and fierce – just like you will be wearing them.
