Ranked number 1 in professional tennis in 2003, Juan Carlos Ferrero earned the nickname ‘Mosquito’ due to his speed and strong, wiry physique. Now he has turned his Midas touch to a periwinkle-coloured luxury hotel near Valencia set in a 19th-century house on 120 acres of land.
The hotel has a strikingly minimalist 21st-century interior incorporating twelve suites, a swimming pool, spa, two restaurants and of course plenty of tennis courts. Chef Francisco Morales serves up dishes such as poached bream with fennel and coriander shoots, while his sommelier wife Rut Cotroneo can guide you through the extensive wine menu of 400 Spanish wines mainly from surrounding Valencia.
