Down the rabbit hole: Hotel Café Royal to open first dessert restaurant in London

On 3 March, Regent Street's set to get a little sweeter, as the Hotel Café Royal opens London’s first dessert restaurant. Executive pastry chef Sarah Barber mixes imagination and skill to serve up a plethora of treats across a selection of tasting menus and optional wine pairings.
The ‘Sarah in Wonderland’ menu will feature five courses including preliminary savoury dishes – such as ‘Chicken Foie’ with quince and brioche – to prepare the palette for pudding. To follow are ‘Alice in Wonderland’-inspired desserts, like the ‘Queen of Hearts’, comprising raspberries, champagne and roses; and ‘Eat Me, Drink Me’, which factors a Snickers and a chocolate malt shake.
A three-course ‘Childhood Memories’ menu will also be available, made up of Barber’s take on nostalgic favourites, like ‘Rhubarb & Custard’ and ‘Jaffa Cakes’. The ‘Pick-n-Mix’ menu will allow guests to curate a selection of four dishes, with both savoury and sweet options. Selected wine flights include sparkling Prosecco di Valdobbiadene, Château Roumieu and Sauternes.
With so many curiously creative and wonderfully delicious desserts to sample, you won't want to be late for this very important date.
Each menu at the delectable new enterprise will factor a range of savory and sweet treats, with optional wine pairings.
Let them eat cake: lemon drizzle loaf with lemon confit and buttercream (left); Dundee loaf with Earl Grey tea and candied fruits (centre); and carrot and pecan loaf with cream cheese frosting (right).
The five-course tasting menu features 'Eat Me, Drink Me', with Snickers and chocolate malt shake (left); 'Queen of Hearts', with raspberries, champagne, and roses (centre); and 'Mad Hatter' with kirsch and cherries (right).
From the menu: 'Jaffa Cake' – chef Sarah Barber's playful take on a childhood favourite.
'Rhubarb & Custard' is tasty and imaginative re-working of a sweetshop staple.
