Comme des Garçons Homme Plus
With decadence as a theme or idea, Rei Kawakubo introduced colour, pattern and texture into her collection in a novel way. Alongside a staple of black crumpled polyester twill, she combined richly-patterned and padded jacquards, often with Chinese motifs and gold lamé, with rows of ruffles, either added to the front of shirts or hidden beneath cuffs of blazers. Each textile had been treated in some way to give newness, just as khaki-colored flannel was overprinted to appear blackened. By patch-working together vintage T-shirts and found silk scarves, Kawakubo is giving a whole new meaning to the idea of ‘editions’ as each piece, either in the form of T-shirts, shirts or jackets, will be completely one off.
