Allegri by Viktor & Rolf, Spring/Summer 08 (scroll down to read the review)
Allegri the rainwear specialists, with Viktor and Rolf as Art Directors are always a good stop for us to see whats up in outerwear. This season the Dutch duo were inspired by Amelia Mary Earhart, the pioneering aviator. This meant technical fabrics, chosen for their weightlessness, including nylon chiffon, high performance polyester, dry cotton and a specially gathered super light almost transparent fabric. Function inspired decoration, when eyelets, originally used for ventilation become decor, applied either in floral patterns or linked together with shoelaces. Deflated pockets maintained their functionality but were also used for adornment, and by turning jackets and coats literally inside out, a combination of tapes, usually hidden, were exposed.
