Burberry Prorsum, Spring/Summer 08 (scroll down to read the review)
If New York, London and the first day of Milan are anything to go on this season is going to be all about ruffles, frills and ruching. Christopher Bailey combined these elements and mixed them with some more familiar territory for Burberry, uniforms and Military adornment, for a collection he called Luxury Warriors. That meant the Burberry stalwart, the trench coat, got an outing in crinkle silk jacquard, bonded taffeta, scuba satin and even shredded frills of silk. Bailey likes a belt round his trenchcoats, this season they were heavily adorned with tooled metal medals which also beefed up a series of frilled and ruffled dresses, referencing 80s Ungaro. Ceremonial decoration also appeared in the form of braid, regimental tape used as fringing and swirling spiral embroidery. The show closed with a darling trenchcoat, cut from storm grey shredded and frilled silk.
