The Peekaboo project: Fendi invites a boldfaced collective of female creatives to design a bag for charity
To coincide with the opening of Fendi's New Bond street maison today, the Roman house has enlisted ten iconic women to design one-of-kind Fendi Peekaboo bags that will be auctioned off at the end of this month to raise funds for the Kids Company.
Architect Zaha Hadid, artist Tracey Emin, fashion illustrator Tanya Ling, actress Naomie Harris and singer Adele are amongst the influential group chosen to exemplify Britain's creative spirit. Offered complete carte blanche, each worked closely with Silvia Venturini Fendi and the Fendi atelier to realise their unique creations.
Tracey Emin's bag reimagines her recent watercolour paintings in needlepoint, while inside a silk-screened image of a poem has been hand-written by the artist. Zaha Hadid's multi-ayered design gives the impression of unfolding pages of a book, executed in black leather and pony hair.
'Designing these smaller pieces is of great importance to us as they inspire our creativity, giving us an opportunity to express our ideas in a different scale and through a different media,' explains Zaha Hadid. 'Fendi's unwavering commitment to the finest materials and craftsmanship is an enduring expression of the family's history. Their collections are timeless; beautifully reinventing classic pieces that explore the integrity and quality of the brand's heritage.'
The Peekaboo bag was first created for the house's Spring/Summer 2009 show, and is now also available for customisation within the New Bond Street store's made-to-measure salon.
Each of the ten special-editions are similarly on show within the London flagship and will be auctioned off on 30 May on the brand's dedicated website.

Hadid's multi-layered bag gives the impression of unfolding pages of a book, executed in black leather and pony hair. Said the architect about her involvement in the project: 'Designing these smaller pieces is of great importance to us as they inspire our creativity, giving us an opportunity to express our ideas in a different scale and through a different media'
Tracey Emin's design reimagines her recent watercolour paintings in needlepoint, while inside a silk-screened image of a poem handwritten by the artist
Designed by Naomie Harris, this bag features a silk-screened map of Africa, with the black and white stripes representing the notion of equal human rights
Peeking out from within, the words 'Truth - Love - Freedom' are intricately hand-beaded
Tanya Ling's hand-painted creation features one of her original illustrations silk-screened onto the inside
The sides of Adele's bag have been colourfully studed with resin to contrast with the bordeaux-hued Cuoio Romano leather
As the bag 'smiles' open, laser cut varnish eyelashes and white 'zipper' teeth wink from inside
Each of the ten special-editions are currently on show within Fendi's New Bond Street flagship and will be auctioned off on 30 May, 2014
