Boombox was a seminal Shoreditch moment, long since departed, but the Amazonian drag artiste who manned the door has bottled the extreme fashion spirit and turned it into a shop. Jeanette, like a one (wo)man art installation with impossibly sculpted features and thick Aberdeen accent, now embodies the spirit of Hidden Shoreditch.

Her shop, which opened in June in a former garage off Redchurch Street, stocks one-off, exclusive designs and archive pieces, for men and women, from her own bevy of homegrown designer friends: Richard Nicholl, Louise Gray, Giles Deacon, Christopher Kane and Judy Blame.

Populated by boys with poise and the odd luminous-haired lady, the store has that unique crossover of fashion, art and entertainment, from which the original Shoreditch scene was born. Round at Jeanette’s it’s still very much alive.
