Artist Sumakshi Singh takes us inside her studio, shedding light on her projects for this year’s India Art Fair
‘For me, art-making is often a way of processing,’ says artist Sumakshi Singh of her practice, ‘processing death, processing grief and processing meaning.’ She has had a long-standing relationship with India Art Fair (2–5 February), having exhibited there every year since 2011. For her most recent outing, Singh was inspired by the gardens of a Swiss hermit who had been living in India for 60 years, seeking to recreate ‘the experience of this magical living garden of light’. The artist also dabbled in intricate lace works, which have ‘more to do with memory, archiving and preserving something precious’.
