Mood board: JW Anderson’s A/W outing was an ode to the spirited free thinker, defined by what he dubbed a ‘transatlantic eclecticism’ that saw elaborate 1970s-style shirts, cut with pointy collars and flapping cuffs, paired with a repeated trouser shape that was split at the ankle to flare, revealing his latest leather reinvention of the court slipper. Working with retro hues of fawn, chocolate, sky blue and rust, the designer's double-breasted leather trenches had a Manhattan menace to them, while his three-button coats were finished with decorative, floral-shaped buttons that spoke more of swinging London during its Youthquake.
Best in show: Anderson’s shearling bib-front biker and finale sequence of oversized, fringed scarves that wrapped tonal leather looks with a collegiate sophistication.
Scene setting: Fibrous rubber chips littered the floor of Yeomanry House’s military recruiting office transporting us to Anderson’s purple planet.
