Located in the northeastern corner of Oregon, Wallowa County and its epic beauty have been considered one of the United States’ best-kept secrets. In the mountain town of Joseph, a lovingly restored hotel named The Jennings, which originates from 1910, offers design-savvy travellers a suitable base to enjoy the region’s untouched splendour.

Founded by artist Greg Hennes and entirely funded by Kickstarter, the 12-room hotel first made a mark in 2015, not least because Hennes had recruited a different designer or architect to transform each of the rooms with creative freedom.

One of the hotel’s last untouched rooms was recently unveiled, featuring the design talents of the Brooklyn studio Coil + Drift. Having spent many childhood summers visiting Joseph, designer John Sorenson-Jolink created a cosy den setting in the compact room, with pale grey walls, a custom-built platform bed, bespoke lacquered desk, specially chosen vintage accessories and a wall covered in woven cane coming together in elegant harmony.

The Jennings’ final room will be designed by BDDW’s Tyler Hayes and is set to open spring 2019.
