JNĉQUOI — Lisbon, Portugal

Behind the façade of the former 1920s Tivoli theatre on Lisbon’s grand Avenida da Liberade, JNĉQUOI – or je ne sais quoi – is the latest venture from the luxury goods arm of Portugal’s Amorim Group.
Building on the company’s multi-brand Fashion Clinic stores, the concept adds food and lifestyle to the mix to form a humming emporium, set over three floors. Barcelona-based designer Lázaro Rosa-Violán has dressed the spaces with muted furnishings in low-level hues that accent the detailed cornicing and elaborate frescoes that have carefully been brought back to life.
At entry level, Ladurée and Assouline outlets flank the central grocery store and DeliBar, which serves up a menu of light meals including oysters and caviar, while downstairs Fashion Clinic Man is a menswear haven showcasing brands from Tom Ford to Christian Louboutin.
The real highlight is the top floor restaurant, where dishes such as sea bass ceviche or melt-in-the-mouth Iberian pork, are served in a light-filled room with a central dinosaur skeleton that is certainly a conversation starter if nothing else.
