New York Design Week 2018 preview
Although following hot on the heels of Salone del Mobile on the design calendar, NYCxDesign (11–23 May) has stayed the course to become a vibrant, inspiring showcase of American design and creativity. This year’s iteration is set to be especially dynamic with a slew of independent designers and collectives debuting new wares on their own terms and turf. Even the behemoth International Contemporary Furniture Fair, the week’s original anchor, has shaken things up this year. Here are some of the highlights in store for the week. Writer: Pei-ru Keh
Following on from their poignant effort last year, the female-owned Egg Collective has reprised its gathering of female designers, this time extending the contemporary offering to include historical figures as well. Co-curated by Kinder Modern’s Lora Appleton, the exhibition will feature an international array of products ranging from furniture, ceramics, textiles, lighting and jewellery by designers including Bari Ziperstein, Greta Magnusson Grossman, Mira Nakashima and Natalie Weinberger.
