Wicker bags weaving style magic for summer
We’ll soon be embarking into our sun-drenched summer destinations, so it’s natural we’re craving stylish, beach-ready pieces
After Simon Porte-Jacquemus’ Italia Riveira-inspired S/S 2019 show, the fringed woven bag in maxi or mini format became the star of our Instagram feed. A signature of Jane Birkin’s chic yet casual 70s style, the basket bag has now reached haute new heights.
Take Valentino’s scrunchable straw shopper or Celine’s basket bag, which mixes natural raffia with elevating black calfskin. Loewe’s penchant for artisanal crafts is reflected in a weaved basket with a luxurious leather inner to keep our poolside essentials safe, while Greek label Zeus + Dione’s wide-handled oversized Scorpio bag will be the perfect picnic companion.
There’s no need for a paradisal postcard background to carry these bags around, we’ll be sporting them come rain or shine, island coastline or city.
