The works of Mexican architect Luis Barragán stand apart for their mastery of hyper-colourful planes and linear geometries, an enduring heritage to which Oliver Spencer paid homage for his S/S 2015 collection. The Torres de Satélite in Mexico City was a particular favourite and informed the colour palette of this relaxed, contemporary tailoring story, which he built through layers of indigo denim, ochre, putty grey and the shot of russet red employed as a bold check accent. Casual summer suits were cut in comfortable proportions of crumpled cotton and bright linens, whilst utility jackets were layered together for a stylistic effect of painterly colour-blocking, pushed into dandy territories by a series of shadowy floral prints. Pushing his references a little further south of the border, Spencer enlisted Brazilian percussionists 'Rhythms of the City' to perform live, their funky drums coaxing out a bevy of carnival dancers whose jewelled bodices and swirling feather headdresses made for an exotic (if a little off-kilter) finale.
