London Design Festival retail round-up: the new stores to open their doors this month

Klaus Haapaniemi
Pop-up shops and temporary exhibitions may pepper the capital in September, but this year's London Design Festival is also leaving a legacy of more permanent additions to the city's design map. Among the brand new stores flipping over their signs to 'Open' for the first time this month is that of Klaus Haapaniemi. The Finnish designer and artist (of Iittala fame) has opened his first ever boutique in Shoreditch to sell and display his signature textile collection along with ceramics and limited edition design pieces.

Lee Broom launches Electra House
Another curiosity shop for Shoreditch, Lee Broom is opening the doors to Electra House, his first dedicated retail space. To mark the occasion the designer is also launching a number of new pieces: Carousel, a light fitting; a new upholstery collection called Quilt; and Fulcrum, a collection of glass candlesticks. The space will interconnect with Broom's design studio.

Valcucine
Opening a new showroom floor at Forza, in partnership with the Barzaghi Store, impeccable Italian kitchen maker Valcucine is celebrating by bringing the all-new Sine Tempore and Meccanica ranges from sister brand demode to the UK for the first time.

CP Hart
Since it was established some 75 years ago, CP Hart has made its name as king of the contemporary designer bathroom in the UK. The first to bring suites by Philippe Starck, Ross Lovegrove, Antonio Citterio and Jaime Hayon to these shores, its new showroom promises to be a working studio with innovative product displays, kicking off with a dramatic lighting sculpture by Jason Bruges.

Les Trois Garcons
Famous for their eponymous restaurant as well as their nearby cocktail bar Loungelover, Les Trois Garcons are taking their eclectic and much-copied style to the next level with the opening of their own store and lifestyle café. This September it will be the venue for the launch of their own range of furniture, a gorgeous collaboration with Portugese makers De Pau.

NUD Collection
This Swedish company promises to light up Clerkenwell with its first UK showroom. Established in 2008, the brand offers a colourful look at illumination, with the ambition to change the way designers, architects and consumers see this industry. The store marks a new era for the brand already popular for its Scandinavian design rigour.

Fortnum & Mason
Not a new store, of course, but Fortnum & Mason is launching a brand new stationary department and has invited SORT - otherwise known as the Society of Revisionist Typographers - to take up residence during the Festival. Recreating a portion of their letterpress workshop, featuring one of their antique Victorian printing presses as well as a multitude of printing paraphernalia - they will offering a collection of bespoke stationery items to buy, while window-shoppers can also enjoy interactive demos.
