Book: Limited Edition, by Sophie Lovell
When we discovered that our long-time design & architecture Editor-at-Large had a book release in the pipeline, we were anticipating something special.
And having fawned over ‘Limited Edition’ - Lovell’s biblically proportioned study of one-off, prototype and art/design hybrid furniture - we couldn’t be more proud of her latest solo foray into the world of the hardbacks.
Take a look inside Lovell's Limited Edition
Over 5 comprehensive chapters, Lovell delves into the limited-edition design mentality that has the industry under its spell. Whilst focusing on the heavyweights driving the trend - Marc Newson, Tom Dixon, Ron Arad and Zaha Hadid are all present and correct – Lovell also uncovers some exciting newcomers and relative unknowns in her exhaustive survey.
Including 40 interviews with designers, manufacturers and gallerists, Lovell covers every corner of the ‘one-off’ phenomenon. With designers frequently crossing into the realm of the artist, and buyers crossing further into the dominion of the patron, Lovell has come up with an insightful overview of one of the most revolutionary happenings to occur in the design world.
With cover-art and typography from Australian design team Rinzen, Limited Edition – in all its glossy loveliness – is an objet d’art in its very own right.
