Il San Pietro di Positano — Positano, Italy
One of Positano’s most iconic hotels, the Il San Pietro di Positano, has recently received a facelift by architect Fausta Gaetani of Studio RG Designs. Founded in 1970, the property has long been a hideout for glamorous loungers and deep-pocketed vacationers who have enjoyed its lush gardens, Michelin-starred restaurant and cliff-hanging views. The refurbishment includes six prime suites that are built into the rocks with private terraces overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. Gaetani, who also oversaw the renovation of the hotel’s restaurant two years ago, designed every room differently, using local artisans to realise each. The overall mood is clean, bright and beachy thanks to glowing white walls – that have been punched up with bold turquoise and lemon yellow – upholstered furniture designed by Gaetani and ceramics by Lucio Liquori di Raito. The floors are covered with polished cotto tiles from Rufoli di Ogliara and local marble with terracotta intarsias that create a cool geometric look. The same graphism is applied to walls dressed with Iaccarino wallpapers, while lamps were produced by Florentine artisans il Bronzetto and lamp shades by Tullio Senzacqua in Rome. The hotel plans to upgrade the rest of its rooms in the coming year, along with the swimming pool and lobby.
