Dynasty Restaurant — Hong Kong, China
Hong Kong’s Dynasty Restaurant – perched on the third floor of the Renaissance Harbour View Hotel – has reopened following a bold makeover courtesy of AB Concept, one of Asia’s top luxury design outfits. Known locally as the ‘tycoon’s canteen’, the storied Cantonese restaurant first opened in 1989, boasting a generous main dining area and a series of elegant private rooms for more intimate affairs. The newly transformed venue takes design cues from the ancient Xiguan mansions of Guangzhou in China. Stone marble and crystal-frosted glass columns provide a modern counterbalance to grey bricks Chinese motifs and ceramics, with the designers opting for a walnut and grey palette punctuated with turquoise tones. The main focal point of the dining room is a colossal, custom-made bamboo artwork that pays homage to traditional Lingnan landscape painting, while a striking chandelier looms large at the centre of the space, adorned with a subtle brick pattern.
