Selfridges centenary, London

Of all London’s superstores, Selfridges’s artistic agenda comes in second to none. With dedicated exhibitions, installations and of course, the legendary window displays, it comes as little surprise that Selfridges - the audacious creative one of the family - has managed to make it through two world wars, a pandemic (or two) and a few meagre recessions relatively unscathed.

This year Selfridges is set to celebrate its hundredth year on the high street, and whilst the day itself was actually back in March - in a suitably similar vein to our anointed sovereign - the expansive store will be celebrating in style for a second time this coming month.

Throughout May, Selfridges will be making merry with weekend catwalk shows from the likes of Giles Deacon, Henry Holland and new British heavyweight PPQ.

The ground floor gallery, Ultralounge, will be presenting a selection of exhibitions marking the life and times of the man himself, Gordon Selfridge, and of course the Oxford street stalwart’s eminent history of pioneering window displays.

Bringing a personal touch to proceedings, we thought we would join in the party and pay homage to the driving creative innovation that has kept Selfridges chugging through the years.

Our Selfridges centenary gallery lends a nostalgic nod to windows past, championing everything from the virtues of cheese and bath towels, to displays from Galliano, Challayan and La Chapelle.
