With their lives consisting of a series of kinetic encounters, both personal and professional, global nomads are immersed in the pursuit of optimum performance and enjoyment, efficiency and well-being, business and leisure; the perfect work/play blend. Both fiercely independent and hyperconnected, Pullman’s new generation of travellers are the living embodiment of its ‘Our World is Your Playground’ philosophy, where a hotel is not just a place to sleep, eat and plug in, but a stimulating and inspiring environment in a vibrant, energetic part of town.

Central to this work/play dynamic is Pullman’s commitment and contribution to art, design, photography and local culture, with the brand encouraging its hotels to collaborate with artists and designers around the world to help bring its vision to life – a good example of this being last year’s artist-in-residence programme at Pullman’s King’s Cross hotel, launched by Wallpaper* and Pullman, and featuring Swiss artist Louisa Gagliardi. Now, Pullman Hotels and Resorts is embarking on an even more ambitious initiative.

The ‘Artist Playground’ reinvents the hotel as art gallery, bringing cultural intrigue and visual ingenuity to Pullman Hotels’ communal spaces across its global portfolio of properties. With management taking on the role of independent curator, scouting for local talent - painters, sculptors, videographers, photographers, illustrators, graphic designers – at art colleges, universities, community centres and galleries, each Artist Playground project is about making the hotel part of the surrounding area’s cultural scene. The first Pullman hotels that have participated in the project so far, creating a designated corner for their chosen artists, are The Park Lane Hong Kong, Aachen Quellenhof, Shanghai Jing An, Jakarta Central Park and Brussels Midi.

Wallpaper* will be working with Pullman to curate their Artist Playground in Brussels in early 2017 – watch this space.
