Silver Lake Pool & Inn — Los Angeles, USA

From Miami to San Francisco and Portland, independent hotel brand Palisociety continues to flourish, this time with the opening of Silver Lake Pool & Inn, on the Eastside of Los Angeles.
Venice Beach-based design and architectural studio Electric Bowery, has reimagined a 1980s motel into a 54-room design-led urban oasis with a distinct Southern Californian flavour peppered with influences from Mexico City to Palm Springs.
The result is light and bright with a mix of natural, handmade and vintage materials and furnishings revealed through handmade Moroccan and Italian tiles in sunset tones; custom terrazzo nightstands and vanities by Concrete Collaborative; low-slung leather and timber chairs; live plants; and a mix of local artists like the Laure Joliet photography.
An upper pool deck - in natural flagstone with an inlaid walled cactus garden - expands into Marco Polo Trattoria and Bar, where chef Casey Lane serves a coastal Italian menu against cascading greenery.
But first, head to the small circular green marble and wood bar. Here, a Californian spin on Italian staples like Campari with blood-orange soda, white wine and bitters, can be enjoyed while admiring the vintage mirrors that reflect the setting sun.
