Ignis Vinothek beim Hauptplatz restaurant review - Linz, Austria
The first completed project by creative duo Christoph March and Marek Gut of the young interiors firm March Gut is an oenophile's fantasy. Ignis Vinothek Beim Hauptplatz is a contemporary foil for its location, Linz's historic Linzer Hauptplatz, its original walls left refreshingly raw against angular oak furnishings. The collaboration with architect Herwig Bartosch is the result of a brief from winemaker Clemens Strobl, so unsurprisingly the bar is a highlight, lit from strategic angles. Staff were selected for their connoisseurship. They serve from a cellar of Austrian and international wines numbering more than a thousand and dating back from 1870 - and a nouveau-Austrian menu that's a welcome addition to tipsy evenings.
