Taiwan Revealed: Transport

Jonathan Bell
The transportation sector is helping transform Taiwanese industry: the island’s infrastructure is modern and extensive – it includes high-speed rail, mass transit systems and a smattering of major container ports – and offers local outfits the perfect logistical support to conquer the global marketplace.
It’s now time for homegrown brands, buoyed by the region’s burgeoning consumer base, to take centre stage and show the world what they’re capable of. Helping Taiwan translate its industry and skills into global recognition – and a zero-emission future – are emerging hi-tech companies such as Luxgen, producers of a range of innovative electric vehicles, and Giant, the multi-million output bicycle maker.
Meanwhile, firms such as the Horizon yacht company are focusing on turning Taiwan into Asia’s largest superyacht boatyard. We can’t help but predict a positive boost to the country’s image in the process, not to mention its GDP.
