The grand chandeliers dangling from the ceiling at Ralph Lauren said it all: big, swinging jewels are back for spring. Lauren's gems were brightly coloured - fake, of course - tumbling down the models' ears and cascading over bronzed chests with all the grandeur of an 18th century ballroom. Their styling, however - thrown over safari-inspired looks in desert tones of sand, khaki and olive - was decidedly 21st century. Lauren resurrected the cargo pant, cutting his in slim silhouettes or as jodhpurs, pairing them with sky-high sandals. Later, when he moved on to extravagant tulle skirts for evening, he kept his collection in check with cargo-style tops or safari shirts that could withstand any jungle, concrete or not.
