Despite his glittering checkerboard show backdrop, creative director Andreas Melbostad kept things simple on the runway this season at Diesel Black Gold. The clothes were nearly all black (with the exception of a nice run of red towards the end), but were dusted up with silver micro beads in star formations that mimicked the same firecracker, multi-bulbs flashing at the end of the runway. If it sounds like a Las Vegas showgirl uniform, it wasn't. Melbostad kept things tightly edited and well-proportioned, using sharp A-line miniskirts and comely crop tops paired with the sort of kitten heels you might find in your grandmother's closet. Diesel's famous jeans are now skin tight and very high waisted - a trend we've seen on nearly every New York runway. Cut from clean canvas or twill, the jeans look like spray-on trousers and also got the bright-lights, big-glitter treatment with a splattering of printed stars or embroidered studs.
