Scene setting: With a gigantic ocean liner, the TH Atlantic, welcoming show goers into the Park Avenue Armory, there were no prizes for guessing what the mood of Tommy Hilfiger's A/W 2016 collection would be. Decked out in twinkling lights, the twin-stacked ship evoked the nostalgic glamour of sea travel with its wooden boards and naval whites.
Mood board: Hilfiger brought his love of all things nautical back up to the surface. Admiral jackets, coiled rope embroidery, fisherman sweaters and sailor trousers were given the fashion treatment, while 1940s-style tea dresses decorated with prints inspired by sailor's tattoos, pyjama suits and glittering heels added a flirty, youthful whimsy.
Best in show: Hilfiger's ability to embrace a theme knows few bounds. For this collection it was the numerous adaptations of naval mainstays such as sailor collars, naval accents, sailor shorts and Breton stripes that carried us away.
