Loewe at Paris Fashion Week Men’s S/S 2019

Staging: Loewe’s mood for summer is lightness. The Place Saint-Sulpice headquarters was littered in hand-made rainbow pom-poms and candy-striped vinyl ribbon. It served as a playfully naive backdrop to the S/S 2019 collection which draws inspiration from the colours of playgrounds and summer holidays. Images of the collection’s lookbook were taken for the second time by the American art photographer Duane Michals. In a first for the brand’s seasonal shoots, the clothes were shot inside a domestic setting – the Casa Gallardo in Madrid.
Mood board: The clothes focus on weightlessness. Multicolour polyester cotton melange sweaters, patchwork linen tunics and trousers, crochet knit tops with floral patchworks radiate a boyish bohemian sprit. Botanical and geometric motifs from sea urchins to whelks are applied to the brand’s iconic bags and canvas sneakers or made into ceramic, leather and metal charms. Tracksuits come in watermelon-striped cotton knit, glazed python and ombré inkblot linen.
Team work: Anderson’s collections for the Spanish house are always steeped in whimsy – his animal-themed leather purses and small handbags have become collectable seasonal items. Just look up the elephant and mouse-shaped coin purses in calf leather! For S/S 2019, mythological lions feature heavily across the collection but there’s a new elephant in the room. Disney’s loveable Dumbo features on a pair of pyjama trousers, a cotton polo neck and the Goya backpack.
